Who is Enoch in the Bible?
Genesis 5:24 (NIV)
“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
What do you think of when you see the word “faithful”? Honest, truthful, and unwavering are some words that come to my mind. Enoch was Noah’s great-grandfather. Faithfulness must run in the family.
The New Testament talks about him.
Jude 14-15 (NIV)
“Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: ‘See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him’.”
Hebrews 11:5 (NIV)
“By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: ‘He could not be found, because God had taken him away.’ For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.”
Here are some other verses about Enoch.
Genesis 5:23 (NIV)
“Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years.”
Genesis 5:22 (NIV)
“After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
There isn’t a lot in the Bible written about Enoch, but from what is written, he made an impact on a lot of people. The Bible says he didn’t die. God took him away on an all-expense-paid trip.
What can we learn from Enoch?
- He walked faithfully with God
- He made an impact on people
- He was an example to his family
- He pleased God
- He was given the gift of prophecy
- He didn’t die
I found this interesting when reading about Enoch. He lived 365 years and we have 365 days in a year.
Use every day to further your relationship with God.
