Imperfect, yet Perfect

I was listening to a book and in the book they talked about Kintsugi.  It is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery.

“As a philosophy, kintsugi can be seen to have similarities to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, an embracing of the flawed or imperfect.

We need to embrace the flaws and the imperfect parts of ourselves.

Looking at the Scars

I burned myself this week on the oven. I have a red slash on my wrist. It will probably leave a scar.  I look and see lots of scars on my body. I worked in the restaurant industry years ago and gained a lot of them on my hands doing that.  Some scars I remember vividly, other scars were from when I was a toddler.  I also have chicken pot scars and C-section scars.  The story of my life can be seen in my scars.

I’m sure if you reflect on your scars you feel the same way. You may have scars on your body and scars on your heart.

We are Refined

This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’”

Zechariah 13:9 (NIV)

We are Healed

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

Imperfect, yet Perfect

Read the verses above and think about them for a while.  You are what God made.  He makes no mistakes.  You may be imperfect, but you are perfect in his eyes! You are what you are for a reason.

Your main purpose in life is to glorify the one that made you. You may have scars and cracks. God sees through the imperfect. He sees the heart and loves you.

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Isaiah 64:8 (NIV)
