I live on a busy street. There are homes, businesses, apartments, restaurants, and a hospital. No traffic lights are in the residential section and there is a ditch that runs along one side of the road.
This road sees a lot of accidents. I was in the traffic of an accident recently. I couldn’t tell what had happened, but a civilian was directing traffic.
By the time I got home, I heard the sirens. First, it was a fire truck and then the police and ambulance came.
Being Numb
I’ve become numb to the sound of a siren. I hear it a lot, being on the same street as the hospital and near the interstate. I hear them late at night and early in the morning.
What is your first thought when you hear a siren? I’ll admit my thoughts aren’t so good or pure.
Oh no, I hope it’s not going where I am. I hope it isn’t someone I know. I hope the accident is out of the way by the time I get there. This is going to make me late.
Happy to Hear Them
I was in a wreck a few years ago. We weren’t hurt, but it shook me and totaled my car. I was happy to hear the siren then. I’ve also been a pedestrian that has been hit by a car. I was happy to hear the siren.
I knew someone that would say a prayer every time she heard a siren. She would bow her head and silently pray.
This is a good idea and one that I should adopt. I’m always thinking that we as a society should pray more. You hear a siren. It is a call to action. Hear it and…… pray for ….
- The first responders
- Doctors and nurses and ambulance and hospital personnel
- People on the road when the emergency vehicles come through
- Those involved, those who may be injured or sick, and their families
- The home or car that might be burning
Change the Way You Look at It
It doesn’t take long and may change your outlook. When I think about it. I would change mine.
Being inconvenienced isn’t as bad as where the sirens are going.
A call to pray….I love that!
Thank you!
