What Are You?

This post has me feeling sad, but I hope it can help to lift someone up and give them hope if they are feeling down.

I know someone in the service industry. She is a beautiful person on the inside and out. Her parents are from different countries. She says that many times people will ask her “What are you?”. Not, where are you from or anything tactful, but “What are you?” then look at her judgingly because to them she is different. This breaks my heart.

I Have A Dream

Martin Luther King said it best when he said

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”.

We are all God’s children. Everybody. The world would be a boring place if we all looked alike.

We need to look at each other with eyes of love.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10 ESV

God made us each unique and special.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV)

God also says

“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

Let us not make snap decisions about people and say things that are unkind because they may not look like us.

What are you?

I am a:

  • flawed human that makes mistakes
  • daughter, wife and mother that does the best I can
  • creative person and may dress different
  • God’s child
  • loved

What are you?
