Growing Older

Remember when you were a kid and when asked your age you would add “and a half”? When we are young we push to grow old and be a grown up. Now that I’m here, I’m wanting to put on the breaks.

Washing Your Face

I struggle with depression, so I’m always trying to do things to keep myself up. I saw an article that said wash your face. Easy enough right?

That would be wrong. I started researching on what would be good skin care for my age and the winter.

It was a nightmare. Follow my 10 step plan. 7 Step plan for great skin.

7 steps…..to wash….your…..face.

No. No. I found 3 things. a cleanser, an exfoliant and a moisturizer. Then I ran out of the moisturizer so inspected the jar. The jar is made bulky to look like there is more in there, but there isn’t. I showed my husband. He said “Yeah, they get you on beauty products. You always pay more for that kind of stuff”.

So I started looking again. I found another 3 things that aren’t as expensive and seem to be working well for me.

Finding the Gray

The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.

Proverbs 20:29 (NIV)

I see gray hairs, and I tell my stylist. “I don’t like them can we dye my hair?” She said “You aren’t ready. When your roots are fully gray, then you dye. Right now it would be a lot of maintenance that you don’t need.” I wish them away.

I don’t like getting older. It’s hard. I didn’t use to hurt. I didn’t use to see people and think they are so young.

Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers,  older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

1 Timothy 5:1-2 (NIV)

“You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.”

“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. “

Titus 2:1-3 (NIV)

That’s easy. I don’t like wine.

There is a lot in the Bible about how to treat your elders and about wisdom, but not much on how to do it.

Back to Basics

I think that would go back to basics. Turn to God.

He sees my grey hairs. He could even tell me the number, but I’d thank Him to keep it to himself.

He knows when my joints ache. When my skin is thirsty, I need to remember that He is the living water.

Instead of trying to put on the breaks, I need to ask Him to hold my hand.

As you age, what do you do to keep your sanity? Do you follow a 10 step face washing routine? I’m curious to know?
