The year 2020 brought on a lot of anxiety for me and unleashed a lot of feelings I’ve had. The bad feelings and thoughts should have been gone a long time ago, but you never really are done.
I saw a show recently and the person said they repressed a lot of feelings. In response, I said, “Repress, don’t stress”. That quote would make a great t-shirt.
The Nails in A Fence
In thinking about this blog, I remembered that a counselor told me this story. I included a video about it below. His analogy was that when someone says or does something to you, it leaves a scar.
So to hash out some of these feelings and repression, I’m writing an open letter to my bullies in life. Past and present. My hope is it will encourage you to do the same.
What You Say and What God Says
- You make fun of my clothing or you want to tell me what to wear.
But God says:
“She is clothed with strength and dignity”
Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)
- You tease me because I’m HOH, wear hearing aids and know ASL.
But God says
“‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the Lord.”
Leviticus 19:!4 (NIV)
- You snub me and talk about me because I am quiet.
But God says
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
- You incite others to gang up on me and bully me.
But God says:
“A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”
Proverbs 16:28 (NIV)
- You look down on me because I don’t have college degrees.
But God says:
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.”
Proverbs 3:7 (NIV)
- You look down on me because I’m a woman.
But God says:
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:31 (NIV)
- You want to have your way all of the time.
But God says:
“Don’t try to be like those who shoulder their way through life.
Proverbs 3:31-32 (The MSG)
Why be a bully?
“Why not?” you say. Because God can’t stand twisted souls.
It’s the straightforward who get his respect.”
You try to make me think that no-one loves me.
But God says:
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. “
1 John 4:7-8 (NIV)
I hope this has encouraged you. I’m going to make a commitment to pray for my bullies. Please join me and do the same.
I leave you with a link to Proverbs 3. Meditate on the verses and pick out a few to take with you this week.

These beautiful scriptures bring to my mind of one of my very favorite verses. It was written by David as he was fleeing a massive army sent by his own son Absalom.
But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory. The One who holds my head high.
~ Psalm 3:3
May God continue to bless, strengthen, and remind you of just how very loved you are! Thank you for reminding me! I will be praying for my bullies along side of you 🙂
Thank you! I love you!!
