2 Kings 19:4 (NIV)
“It may be that the Lord your God will hear all the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives.”
Merriam Webster defines “remnant “ as
1 a: a usually small part, member, or trace remaining
b: a small surviving group —often used in plural
2: an unsold or unused end of piece goods
We think of remnants as scraps, unwanted, and leftovers. When making clothing, the remnants might be thrown away. Put the remnants together though, and a great thing can be made. You can re-purpose remnant pieces to make new things. Fabric remnants were used in olden days on kites. Beautiful quilts are made with remnant fabric pieces.
When each part of the remnant comes together it is bigger, stronger, and made new. We as Christians should strive to be like the remnant pieces. Don’t view your job, devotion, tithe, prayer as just as insignificant. See everything you do as part of a bigger picture. Each prayer we say adds up. All the kind words and actions show God’s love to the world.
Romans 11:5 (NIV)“So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.”
The verse is truth today and always. Grace chooses the remnant. Pray for the remnant. If we each do our part and pray for one another, we can be a beautiful remnant made new.
