Relying on Rainbows

I saw a rainbow in the sky recently, in the same spot for several days. Rainbows mean many things to many people.

I always think of Noah and the Bible.

The Rainbow

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:  I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,  I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

Genesis 9:12-17 (NIV)

I am comforted when I think about these verses and how God made a covenant with us.

The Acronym

I also started thinking about school and how we had to learn the colors of the rainbow. We were given an acronym “ROY G BIV”. This spells out the colors in the rainbow in order: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet.

This made me think, could I use these letters to come up with an acronym for God?

Maybe? I don’t know. I tried. It was hard coming up with the “I” and the “V” words.

There are lots and lots of articles about colors in the Bible and what they mean.

Look them up when you have time. It is fascinating.

Relying on Rainbows

I can say this, we can rely on the rainbow as a reminder that the promises of God are true.

Look for the rainbows in the sky and remember you are loved. That is a promise you can rely on!
