Five People That Have Impacted My Faith

***Disclaimer, I realized after I wrote and this that I messed up. These were supposed to be people that I’ve never met that impacted my faith. I didn’t read the directions and I wrote about my great-grandfather. Obviously, I knew him. So please forgive me and don’t take off too many marks.

These are the five people that I’ve never met, that have impacted my faith. I’ll be picking people that are no longer living for this round. If you like the post, let me know in the comments and I’ll tell you about the five people that impacted my faith that are living.

And now with no further ado and in no particular order…

Corrie Ten Boom

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

Corrie Ten Boom

Corrie is important to be because of her enormous faith. I struggle with my faith and I look towards Corrie as an example. She impacted me because she causes me to want to do right and when I’m afraid to look to God.

I read “The Hiding Place” as a child. She was an amazing woman with amazing faith! She helped hide Jewish people in her family home during WWII. They arrested her and sent her to a concentration camp named “Ravensbruck”.  She survived, but I won’t ruin it for you if you haven’t read about her. Here are some links where you can read about her and a link to her book.

St. Maximilian Kolbe

“The most deadly poison of our times is indifference. And this happens, although the praise of God should know no limits. Let us strive, therefore, to praise Him to the greatest extent of our powers.” -Saint Maximilian Kolbe

St. Maximilian Kolbe is important to me because of his love. Lives were changed because of his love. Love can change the world and I am impacted by him.

He is called the “Saint of Auschwitz”. During WWII, he was also caught and imprisoned several times for his faith and for distributing religious materials. The last time he was imprisoned, he was sent to Auschwitz. Did he survive? You’ll have to read for yourself. He also wrote several books that are available for purchase.

St. Francis of Assisi

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me bring love.

Where there is offence, let me bring pardon.

Where there is discord, let me bring union.

Where there is error, let me bring truth.

Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.

Where there is despair, let me bring hope.

Where there is darkness, let me bring your light.

Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.

O Master, let me not seek as much

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love,

for it is in giving that one receives,

it is in self-forgetting that one finds,

it is in pardoning that one is pardoned,

it is in dying that one is raised to eternal life.”- St. Francis

I’m an animal lover and vegetarian so I just love St. Francis. He impacted me because of his love for nature and animals. I also enjoy his poems and writings.

He gave up his wealth to become a monk. It is said that if there was no one around that he would preach to the animals. There is also another story about him saving a town from a wolf. One of my favorite hymns is also attributed to his poem.

Claude N. Gibson

He was my great-grandfather. He babysat me a lot as a child. My earliest memories are about him. He impacted me because he taught me about love and faith without even knowing it.

You can read about him here:

Mister Fred McFeely Rogers

“Deep and simple are far, far more important than shallow and complicated and fancy.”-Mister Rogers

Mister Rogers impacted my faith because he had quiet faith and strength. He loved everyone and makes me want to see past the surface and into the heart.

The world today is a better place because of him. He was a Presbyterian minister, but I didn’t know that until I was an adult.

These are all fantastic examples of living out our faith! I just borrowed the Mister Rogers book because of your suggestions too. Thank you! My Mother is a living example of God’s great love for me 🙂 She watches the Hiding Place every year and says that it never gets old! Please share your living examples with us! I appreciate you and your writing so much! I have learned a lot from you, thank you!!
