The Prayer List

Do you have a prayer list? Do you write it down or keep it in memory? I have done both, but lately, I keep it in my mind.

I used to write out my prayers in a letter to God. It was good for me to get my concerns, petitions, and thoughts gathered in one area. I highly recommend this!

My prayers usually focus around a group of people and then others come and go from the list as they need prayer.

The Question

This is what is causing me to question my usage of prayer lists. When does someone come off of the prayer list? Let’s say I know a guy named Bob. Bob needs prayer because he hurt his big toe. I add him to my prayer list and petition for him. Bob gets better. Is he now removed from the prayer list? AHA! See what happens? Everybody needs prayer, just because Bob’s toe is better it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t need prayer anymore.

Is this just me or my anxiety?

Someone really wouldn’t be removed from the prayer list, unless they died. I know that is horrible, but it is what I think about.

Praying for the World

When I go down the spiral of worrying about who or should not be on the prayer list, I will say a blanket prayer and just pray for everyone in the world. This is heartfelt and not something I take lightly. I pray for those that are being born and those who are dying. Stop and think about it. Everybody in the world is going through something right now. I wrote about this before and will leave a link below:

God and My Prayer List

I sometimes venture down the road of wondering what God thinks about my prayer lists. He facepalms about me a lot. I know it. When I’m praying and I start arguing with myself as to whether Sally needs to stay on the list. She did have that wart removed after all……..God is yelling “STOP ITTTTTTTT!!!! Just stop! Pray for who you want to pray for. I am not interested in semantics.” He looks around the throne room and everyone is shrugging. He then goes outside for a walk to calm down.

The Feedback

I’m interested to know how you work with your prayer list:

  • Do you have a prayer list?
  • Is it mental or visual?
  • How do you add and remove people?
  • Am I crazy?

Don’t answer the last one. I already know the answer.

Thank you for sharing your prayer life with us. It has opened my heart to extend my prayers! I have a mental prayer list, and I regularly visualize some of the people that I am praying or thanking God for. I’ve thought about this too, and have often wondered if God really wanted me “running through” this process of praying. He already knows who needs what and at the end of the day I am only truly praying to be closer to and more like Him. I pray for His will in my life, and that he would give me the strength and the courage to go through whatever it is that He has decided is best for me. For Him to align my heart with His heart, and my thoughts with His thoughts. I am so thankful just writing this to you now. Thankful for our freedom to share in this together, and I pray for our persecuted Brothers and Sisters all over the world. One day we will all be together praising Him and I can’t wait!!! Thank you for your bravery 🙂
