2 Kings 20:5 New International Version (NIV)
“Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.”
Hezekiah was an honest king. He worshiped God and trusted God to take care of him and his people. The Bible says in 2 Kings 18:5 “Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him.” (NIV)
He revolted against the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria sent a his top three military chiefs to Jerusalem where the king lived. They threatened to destroy the king and his people. Hezekiah became scared and went to the temple to pray. The prophet Isaiah met him and the temple and told him not to fear the “bootlicking errand boys” (MSG).
Hezekiah prayed! The Bible says in 2 Kings 19:20 (NIV) “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I have heard your prayer concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria.” 2 Kings 19:35-36 “That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies! So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.”(NIV)
Hezekiah became ill and was almost dead. 2 Kings 20 2-3 “Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, ‘Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.’ And Hezekiah wept bitterly.” Isaiah the prophet came to Hezekiah 2 Kings 20:5 “This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.”(NIV) God kept his promise and healed him.
If you are lonely, talk to God. Remind him of the things you have done. As you are reminding God, you will also remind yourself. Write them down as a prayer. Think about all the good things you have done and wise choices you have made. You can cry and plead or get angry and yell. God can handle it. Above all, be sure you pray somehow. Similarly as he did with Hezekiah, God will hear and answer your prayers.
