Can You Be Friends With A Lion?

I rarely remember my dreams.  I had a dream recently where I was friends with a lion. In the dream, there was a pack of lions that lived in the woods where I worked.  I was friends with the lead lion.  I was the only one that could get close to him and talk and pet him and he would protect me while I walked through the woods.

This caused me to think, can someone really be friends with a lion?  I love animals, so I would like to think this is possible, but maybe not in the physical world. Anything is possible in the spiritual world.

Daniel was in a den with lions and came out unscathed. He prayed and prayed and fasted and worshiped and was delivered.

A decree was made by king Darius that no one could pray but Daniel defied the order and continued to pray. There were men conspiring against Daniel and king Darius had to follow the decree he signed.  Daniel 6:16 (MSG) “The king caved in and ordered Daniel brought and thrown into the lions’ den. But he said to Daniel, ‘Your God, to whom you are so loyal, is going to get you out of this.’ Daniel 19-22 (MSG) “ At daybreak the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. As he approached the den, he called out anxiously, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve so loyally, saved you from the lions?’ ‘O king, live forever!’ said Daniel. ‘My God sent his angel, who closed the mouths of the lions so that they would not hurt me. I’ve been found innocent before God and also before you, O king. I’ve done nothing to harm you.’”

We read about the heroes of the Bible that did amazing things for God.  They are an inspiration and we should look to their actions and remember all of the wonderful things that they have done.

Hebrews 1:32-34 (NIV)

“And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,  quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.”

We also read in Isaiah 11:6 New International Version (NIV)

“The wolf will live with the lamb,

    the leopard will lie down with the goat,

the calf and the lion and the yearling together;

    and a little child will lead them.”

Can a person be friends with a lion?  I think we can all be friends with the Lion of Judah.  That is a lion that I don’t mind being friends with.  I don’t have to worry about being torn limb from limb or shutting its mouth.  I should heed any words given from this lion.  I think the Lion of Judah has had his mouth closed for a while, but we are waiting.  I know I am.  I am waiting for the roar. The dream may have just been a dream that didn’t mean anything, but for me.  I look to the lion and I have hope.
