Praying For Our Leaders

Deuteronomy 4:7 (NIV)

“What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him?”

Our country needs your prayers.  We are full of fighting, hate and unrest.  We need to lift our eyes upwards instead of pointing fingers.

This is a post I wrote on Facebook a few years ago, but I think it fits today:

Instead of pointing fingers or raising our fists

Let us use our fingers to count our blessings

Let us use our fingers to count the things for which we are thankful

Use our hands in acts of giving

Use our hands to reach out to those who have fallen

Use our hands to lift up those who are needy

and fold our hands and pray

Pray for our family, our friends, our city, our nation and our world

The Bible says we should pray for those in charge.

1 Timothy 2:1-3 (NIV)

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior,”

You may think, “I’m not going to pray for that so and so….” but God wants you to pray for others.

The Bible doesn’t say we have to agree with them.  It doesn’t say we have to like them, but it does say we should pray for them.  Whether you like the president, your mayor or the leader of your HOA, they are in a leadership position. What about your boss?  Could he/she use prayer?

The world would be a better place if we all prayed for one another.

It is hard not to pray for your will “I pray that they will do what I want and if they don’t they will move far away”, but that’s not how prayer works.

When I pray for those in leadership, I ask God to give them wisdom, direction and guidance.  I ask for protection for those that would do them harm.  I ask for forgiveness for the wrongs we have done as a nation and for this grace and mercy to bless our country.

If we all agree to join together in praying for our country, it can’t hurt.  I believe we can only reap the benefits that God wishes to give us.
